...Nathan left for Basic Training.
At this very moment, I'm listening to Nathan talk to his friend, V, on the phone. They met that 'fateful' day when they both arrived at the San Antonio airport. As fate would have it, N & V went all the way through BMT and Tech School together - and have kept in touch ever since. And they talk throughout the year - but almost always on the anniversary of their meeting. Reminiscing and catching up on life as it has happened since the last time they talked.
It's amazing how time flies and how much we have been through since that day... it's like our life together has been measured with a military yardstick - the premilitary, and then chunks of time that have been set forth by the military (or really, by happenings in the world that have had bearing on the military).
Here is a picture of us that day - I can tell you that, looking back at this picture, neither of us were really into this smile. It was the first time we'd ever been TRULY apart with no good means of communication, and so it was scary for us.

But we made it...

And we continue to make it...

But even though the years pass quickly, I don't ever forget the day that Nathan's plane took off, taking him to the place that would change the path of our lives forever...
