For Rent
A cute, 32-inch, 27-lb, sandy-blonde, gray-eyed, bundle of joy.

Who (again) has started not sleeping in the middle of the night.

I don't wanna sell him on ebay, because he's got the greatest little personality. And really, as far as rent goes...I only want to rent him out at night, for those sorts of people who have to stay awake. Because by day, he's just the very best! But for the past 2 nights, he has been a terror for those of us who need sleep.

On Saturday night (or technically, Sunday morning), he woke up around 1:30 & didn't go back to sleep till somewhere around 5:30...and last night, he woke up at 11:45 & didn't go to sleep till somewhere around 4...maybe later, but 4:00 is when I dozed back off.

With the way he has been eating (literally, he asks to eat something almost every hour of awake-time...and when he wakes up at night, he is asking to eat)...I honestly believe that he's about to be doing some major growing. Which I really cannot afford right now, but a boy's gotta grow, I know!

So when he wakes up at night, we are being as patient as possible. We give him a glass of milk (last night he guzzled it) and have been bringing him to bed with us again. He seems to be regressing in the area of night-wakings. In recent past, if he has woken up, he would go back to sleep on his own. But over the past few nights, if he wakes up, it requires our presence to go back to sleep. And in the past 2 nights, he has fallen asleep with me rocking him...and when I lay him down, he cries like I've broken his heart. And in my hardest of hearts, I don't believe he's "playing" me. I think he is genuinely sad/scared/hurting/whatever.

So we bring him to bed with us, like we did in the beginning. He tosses & turns, or just lays in bed wide awake. If I roll over, and he thinks I am getting out of bed (or if I really do have to get out of bed to go to the bathroom), he cries, "Mama, mama!" until I assure him that I'm there. He does the same for Nathan, which is relatively new. He's always wanted Nathan around, but he seriously cries for him now.

Anyway...here we are. Back at square one with sleeping, and hoping that "this, too, shall pass."

At the rate he's going, he may be awake to ring in the new year with us tonight!

Bless his little bones!! The way we've been sleeping lately, we could rent him for a night or two - HA! I was up with him last night for some reason. Maybe I'm going through "sympathy sleeping" with him?!

Anyway, it will get better...promise! love, Kristy

ditto to Kristy's comment!

Seriously...last night I dozed off, then woke up and I was awake from midnight till after 3am!

To bad I'm not closer or I would LOVE to rent your adorable son! then I could return him in the am when you wake up and I could go to sleep!

Wish I had some great advice for you... but I don't.

**yawning** Sure do hate missing sleep, but it sure feels nice that the little one is crying for me too. Fortunately he's not having to be away from Mommy right now...that would be truly tramatic.

I so feel your pain on the sleeping thing. I am dying my own death of 20,000 deaths in the sleeping department. Glenys refuses to go to sleep then she beats the shit out of me all night long. We have to change this sometime.

Oooo... me, me!! I'll rent him! I'm a night owl, so that would work out nicely! :-) Seriously though, I hope you get some sleep tonight! Poor little guy is probably gonna grow inches! Happy New Year!

Hmmm...how about a trade off...you take him and ours for a week, then we'll switch? Our little guy (home 3 weeks now) does the same thing - will not sleep unless one of us is in there...frusrating! Hang in there!

So, how was the New Years. I hope it was snoozy for all 3 of you. I stayed up at a church party with the girls and have already had to take two cat naps today. To think I used to enjoy all nighters! YUK!

M & N, When I adopted my son Craig he was 3 1/2. He really did have a hard time at first. He regressed back to a baby. He wanted a bottle, wanted to wear diapers the whole works. I also adopted his sister at the same time and she was 18 mos. It took us several weeks to get everything worked out. I really had to work with Craig the most. Tanya seemed fine. I let him have a bottle, and it didn't take him but 2 days to throw it down. I never let him wear the diapers, in fact I started potty training Tanya to show him. He didn't sleep well at all. I was so run down. I decided that he would sleep with us until he was ready to go to his bed. It didn't take long, but like I said he was three and a half then. Jason, on the other hand didn't take but about a week to get settled down, he was six months when we got him. Craig was in state of real confusion. It was a real challenge for Earl and I. I could not leave him with a babysitter AT ALL. He always thought I was going to go off and leave him and never come back for him. When he died at age ten and a half I can honestly say that the last two years were his best and happiest. He knew he was going to have a home to live in and especially I was not going to leave him. But he left me instead.

Craig is forever 10 1/2 and a bonfide ANGEL. AMEN.

In saying this we can't in no way understand what is going on in his little mind. He will settle down again. Loosing sleep is just part of parenthood. These nights don't ever go away completely. Every mother out there will agree there are so many nights he will be vomiting, running fever, just sick and need you and you will be sick too but you have to keep going for that little man. Just enjoy the nights you do get.

Hi there,

We're going through the same thing again too! Iliya and Owen are on the same wake-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-again schedule. We make Owen stay in his bed and stay with him, patting him or rubbing his back and saying, "Shhh, night-night" and he is usually asleep within the hour. Last night it only lasted a few minutes...which is progress from earlier this week. I thought maybe it was from going out of town, but it's continued at home too. Owen wants to eat all day long just like Iliya, and we've noticed he's talking a lot more and making 2-word phrases this week too. It has to be another growth spurt (physical and cognitive). I'm listening to him on the baby monitor right now, tossing and turning, just waiting for him to wake up and cry for us to come in his room!! Oh, I hope he stays asleep.

We'll get through it! We may be extra tired for a while, but this too shall pass...and hopefully soon!!
