Oh, for a sense of direction...
When am I going to learn to quit complaining about not having blogging material?? Because, this morning, I sure did create some material.

Since we are down to one car, and I am going shopping today, I took Nathan to the guard base this morning. Then my next mission was to come back to the hotel and get ready. That's where I sorta got mixed up. Those of you who are not familiar with this area may not truly appreciate this, but I've included a graphic to help you see the error in my ways.

Anyway. Set the stage: I'm in Birmingham. I've made this trek plenty of times - I KNOW how to get from Hwy 79(close to the airport) to Hwy 280 (you know, the Summit). No big deal. I guess I put myself on autopilot and the next thing I knew, I really didn't know WHERE I was. One minute I was going the right way, and the next minute I realized I did not recognize my surroundings! I started seeing signs that said "Vestavia Hills" - I wasn't worried, I wasn't in the wrong part of town...but STILL. How in the WORLD did this happen? I still don't know. Well, I know where I didn't get on the right path, but I don't know how I missed it. Guess I was in la-la land.

Never fear, in Birmingham, an interstate is always close - I kept wondering why I didn't just turn around and go back - but at the same time, I just laughed with self derision and thought, I am going to keep going and when I (FINALLY) make it back to the hotel, I'm going to have to apologize for complaining last night.

So I kept driving. Finally, I came to I-65. The next question - North or South??? Why not try South. If nothing else, it'll take me back home! But seriously, I thought I was going in the correct direction. Guess I was confused about where 280 hits 65. Ugh.

Then I saw Exit 13. The Galleria. I was going the WRONG way...figures.

Took the exit, got back on I-65, going NORTH, this time. And here I am - back at the hotel, telling you about my adventure. And for those of you who are not familiar with this area, here is my path. The PURPLE is how I should've gone. The YELLOW is what actually happened.

But one good thing about being attached to the Guard? Gas: $1.93. So at least my adventure didn't cost as much as it might have otherwise!

At least you didn't end up near the Daily Sentinel building (remember that?) -- then you'd really have had a lot of backtracking to do :o) Well, did you find any boots? I'm so glad that this shopping adventure was happier than that one 5 year's ago -- it was such a tough time, that shopping wasn't what you were wanting to do. Remember the salesman that must have been to con-artistry school that commented that we must be sisters??? But he sold a pair of boots & a pair of shoes (altho' I think they were a better bargain that way :o)

This reminded me of when we got turned around in Birmingham when you went for the Linly Heflin scholarship interview...it was about the same deal -- we just looked for an interstate, then got on it going the wrong way & had to exit & turn around, but made it back home safely. So I guess you are somewhat your mother's daughter :o)
