A Standing Appointment with Gravity
I may have shared this before...but a few months ago, our minister's wife shared with me that when her daughter turned 2, she seemed to have a standing appointment with gravity.

I thought that was an interesting way of putting it - really quite apropos! Iliya had his share of bumps & bruises when he turned 2. But nothing like he has had lately!

Yesterday, I had to go to Montgomery for work, and I had barely gotten seated in our meeting...when my phone vibrated with a call from Iliya's teacher. He had fallen & smacked the bridge of his nose on the windowsill. It didn't seem to be broken, and they had done all the First Aid they knew to do for him...I just asked that they make sure to watch for signs of a concussion. Turns out, he was okay - but I had a horrible feeling, all day, that these things only seem to happen when I am out of town!

Then this morning, when I dropped Iliya off at school, he walked in the classroom and decided he wanted to color. He headed over to the table as I signed him in. I glanced over, just in time to see him trip & his temple connect with the edge of the table. His teacher made an ice-run, and I held him as he cried. I also dug in my purse to find some Ibuprofin to give him. He now has a goose-egg & a blue-line-bruise on the side of his head.

He looks like he's been in one heck of a boxing match.

I guess it may be part of being the mother of a boy...but I'm not really doing well with this whole gravity thing!

at least it has happened at school with more than one adult around!

It must be part of a next step in coordination and confidence....along with their little bodies that are still growing out, and then up. Kinda like "I KNOW I can do THIS, but my little feet won't balance my extra girth around my waist. I know I can, I know I can!"

Can you hear his little voice inside saying "man, what is happening here? did mom slip something in my milk this morning?"

(I must have gotten a good nights sleep...my creativity is on overdrive this morning!)

hoping for an upright and steady day for your I-man!

Poor little man... It's tough being a toddler huh?

Bless his little bones! Natalie went through that phase, too. Seemed like she was always sporting some stage of bruise on her face, arms and legs. Even at eight, mommy smooches are the best medicine!

Same with Dima! I swear he is top heavy and jsut kinda ends over every time he is next to somehting that he could have a good fall into with. He has had an egg on the head and then a cut within the egg and two small polka dot bruises on each side within 3 days. My nerves can't keep up!

I can relate. We smack our head on everything and all I can do is cringe while he comtinues to play.

Hugs to Iliya!!! Poor lil man. I guess we all have to prepare ourselves for the bumps and bruises of life. I think sometimes it's worse on Mama than it is on the little ones!

Ouch! Poor thing. Both of you. When I was 2 or 3 I walked into the corner of a table at home and had to have stiches (I don't remember it at all just have the scar to tell stories). It's not just boys but I hope he grows out of the gravity phase soon.

Boys will be boys, won't they? He is active and that is good.

I like the new blog layout and colors. I really like the header photo. Great job!

Glad your post placement went well. I can imagine how surreal it must feel to be completing a PPR. We feel like we just read about your trip to Russia last week. As our wait extends to four months, we feel like we will never hit that point. Adrienne said it goes so quickly once our children are home.

Best wishes!

We remember the days - of course, in 4th grade we found out our older one needed glasses -and probably had for quite awhile. Not that Iliya does - he probably just gets in a hurry - boys seem to be more prone than girls sometimes. And a little comment on your new web design - It's very nice - love the pic at the top - but the black background is awful hard on these old eyes - I think somebody else mentioned that in an earlier post -
love
sis

It's definitely part of being mother to a boy. Slugger currently has a scraped and bruised knee (in the same place, yet it's the result of two separate falls) and a bruised elbow. All three happened at school.

Nice.
