...I'm ready to go...

(but I'm not quite to the point of standing outside the door...and a taxi won't be picking us up...)

Oh well, so I guess only the first line of that song really fits. (Anyone wanna guess what song I'm talking about? AND whose version I actually had going through my head whenever I typed all that?)

SO... enough goofy stuff. We are actually officially packed...and heading out early in the morning. Can you believe it??? I really can't. I am at work today, and several people have commented on my calmness. I guess I'm so busy today that I don't have a lot of time to just sit and think; when I lay down at night, that's when all the checklists and worries try to creep in.

As I mentioned in my last post, Nathan & I have never been on a long flight together. But we have gone on road trips...and for these trips, I usually do most of the packing. Which is perfectly fine by me, because it's like a strange puzzle that I love figuring out. Anyway, Nathan's job is usually to lay out the clothes/underwear he wants to take....and to fuss about how it is 11:00 at night, and time to go to bed, we can finish this before we leave tomorrow.

Not this time!

He was right there with me the whole time last night...getting things that I asked him to, handing me things without begging me to come on to bed. Helping me remember all the things I've asked him to help me remember. It was wonderful! I guess he is as keyed up as I am about this - but it was nice to have him right there with me while we were getting everything together.

So now....... what else to talk about?

I really don't know - now that I'm on my lunch break, my mind is going in a bazillion different directions. So I guess I should probably just stop for now and ramble no more.

Oh, one other thing! For those who were wondering about the whole "liquids in your carryon" thing... here is a GREAT link: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/index.shtm

The main thing right now, is that in your carry-on, you can take liquids, but they can't be in bottles more than 3 oz.....AND all your liquids-bottles must be kept in a quart-size clear ziplock bag. One quart size ziplock per person, no gallon size bags allowed.

SO...I say that we're packed, but when I get home this evening, I'm going to go through our carry-on bags ('cause I know I've got at least one gallon-sized ziplock in each of our bags) and rearrange. Fortunately, neither of the bags are full, so it shouldn't be difficult to rearrange. Good thing I checked, and this is great info for you travelers out there!!

Now a word about what you can NOT take in your carry-on: I know that people check wacky things in their airline baggage. The merchandise at Unclaimed Baggage is proof of that statement (ever heard of of UB? I worked there in high school, when it was featured on the Opr*h)......but I digress. When reading through the lists of things you can/cannot take, I found it almost comical that the TSA has to list for people what they may not take in their carry-on: sabers, meat cleavers, bows and arrows, axes, dynamite, hand grenades, and the list goes on.

Fortunately, the dynamite and hand grenades are also items that may not be in checked baggage...

Anyway, it's just funny to me. I know, you have to have the rules written out in plain language...and that's why they are there. But it still gives me a good chuckle to think about someone trying to carry on their saber. (As a sidenote, I was telling one of our students this information this morning, and she said, "a saber? you mean like a light saber??" -- sorry April, I had to say it!!! :)

Back to the serious (sorry! I can't help my digressions!)

This will likely be the last post y'all get from me for a little while. I am at work the rest of the day (so feel free to leave me some last minute comments!!) but the laptop is already packed up, so I won't be posting at home tonight. So I guess the next time you get a blog post will be from somewhere not in Alabama. Assuming everything goes as planned, I will blog while we're gone. Just check back when you can and hopefully I'll have updates!
