We may or may not ever be able to make an announcement that "we're pregnant"...but we have come to understand that the blessing is the fact that however parenthood happens, it is a miracle! ....... Now we have been home with our precious blessing from Russia since August 2007. Join us on our fun and crazy ride that we call "life with this child of mine."

Crab, Mushroom Soup, & Caviar
Can you tell me what these all have in common? The answer in a moment...

First, we had a small adventure today. We were pretty stir crazy, and needing to get some food (so we wouldn't have to eat in the restaurant the entire time here). So our translator arranged a driver for us, and we took a trip to the supermarket! It was a fun experience - for whatever reason, I was a little nervous on the way there, I guess because I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The supermarket we went to, last trip (in the orphanage city), was pretty small & dark...my first experience in any foreign grocery store, and it intimidated me. I was determined not to be intimidated this time, though...and it all turned out well!

It was a pretty big, brightly lit place, and was organized much like our grocery stores in the U.S. I guess the way marketing goes, these days, you almost can't mess up in a grocery store. With pictures on the boxes (and a limited knowledge of vocabulary), we did pretty well...we got the fixings for sandwiches, some cereal & milk, yogurt, juice, pringles (yeah, pringles!), and some other stuff. Oh yeah, and some mocha wafer things from the bakery. Yum. I could've CLEANED that bakery out. (edited to add that I should've never listened to Nathan...the milk we got was not milk even though it had a "stinkin' cow on it." I didn't see the Russian word 'milk' anywhere on the carton - though the stuff across the aisle did have that word on it. But I got it anyway, because of that "stinkin' cow" and I didn't want to fuss with Nathan about it. Just now, I just went to make some cereal, and it seems that we picked up some sort of liquid sour cream stuff. Interesting. Not good in cereal though.)

And to answer the question at the beginning of this post... those are all flavors of Lay's potato chips. We also saw Sour Cream & Onion - but if I'd included that, it would've given the answer away!

Well, unless I get bored & think of something else to post about before then, I'll post again tomorrow! We leave at 8:00 a.m. to head out to the orphanage to see the little guy. If it takes us 3 hrs, like last time, then we'll be there by 11:00 (using my whiz math skills there)...which makes it 7:00 p.m. (on Wednesday) for everyone at home. Be thinking about us! And I will post later!

Keep the empty Pringles cans. Trust me. Put a clothes pin or something in them and they make a great toddler toy. Again... trust me. Just keep the Pringles cans. Also water jugs.

Please ship me back some chocolate. Maybe a bottle of Vodka too.

Well, thank you so much for your lovely post and the encouraging words! I spent the better part of the day in the garage with a friend pricing garage sale stuff and thinking to myself over and over like a mantra in my head "this is for Dima, this is for Dima". That kind of work makes my brain hurt.

It sounds like you bought Kefir. Ir is a fermented yogurt drink and very very good for your G.I. tract. They sell it here in the states. I could definitely see how it would be funky on cereal.

Try the chicken focacia sandwich from the resatuarant there if you get a chance and like that sort of thing. It was soooo good I've been dreaming of having it again when we return! The chocolate cake?..not so much.

I think you probably went to the same grocery that we went to - LOVE the bakery! If you get a chance to go back there you might try some of their 'deli' hot cooked foods. One afternoon on the way back to the hotel we picked up a few things and got out dinner to go- yummy. Also, they have a whole isle I think of boxed chocolates. Good for gifts. We got some in a pretty box with a map of Vladivostok

Yes, I'm thinking you bought Kefir. This is what Daria drank instead of milk in Russia. Don't be surprised if Little I drinks it too. BUT I learned the hard way that they usually added a little sugar to it for the babies. Daria thought I was crazy when I first gave it to her - I couldn't figure it out! Our translator saved the day on that one.

I have no idea how the "6" got onto the end of my name in my post...oh well. Thinking about you all and praying for the best!

And I do hope that the sweet boy learns to like milk. I may have trouble finding "Kefir" to have in your frig when you get home! Drinkable yogurt, yes. Maybe that's something I should research a little, just in case! Who knows, maybe Manna Grocery will have it??!!

Love you, Kristy
